Corporate History

1946
Asahi Trading Co., Ltd. is founded.
1949
Company name is changed to Nikko Trading Co., Ltd.The NIKKOL® trademark is adopted.
1964
Company name is changed from Nikko Trading Co., Ltd. to Nikko Chemicals Co., Ltd.
1970
The Nikkol Technical Center and the Distribution Management Center are established in Hasune, of Itabashi-ku, Tokyo.
1989
The Pharmaceutical Development Center opens in Kanagawa Science Park in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
1994
The Nasu Factory is newly constructed in Otawara City, Tochigi Prefecture, and the Odai Factory is relocated.
2007
Nikko Chemicals Shanghai Corporation is founded.-Nikko Chemicals Singapore is founded in the Jurong Industrial Estate in Singapore.
2009
The Nikko Shanghai office is relocated to North Chengdu Road, Shanghai, and the first overseas Open Research Laboratory opens.
2014
Open Research Laboratory opens at Nikko Chemicals’ Osaka Branch.
2015
A solar power generation system is installed at the Nasu Factory.
2016
Nikoderm Research EU Representative Office and Research Laboratory are founded.
The Personal Care Handbook is published.
Joint venture company Aprinnova is founded in the USA.
2018
Nippon Surfactant Industries factories acquired MPJA Halal certification in Nasu Factory (overall) and Utsunomiya Factory (some production lines).
Nippon Surfactant Industries acquired RSPO certification (supply chain).
2019
The Nikko Shanghai Open Research Laboratory is reopened after refurbishment.
2022
Nikko Chemicals merges with the Cosmos Technical Center and switches to a divisional organization system.

[World’s first] Development of alkyl glyceryl ethers.
1975
[Japan’s first] Development of polyoxyethylene phytosterol.
1981
[World’s first] Development of the non-aqueous emulsification technique with sucrose fatty acid esters.
[Japan’s first] Development of hydrogenated lecithins (“NIKKOL® Lecinol Series”) and their application to cosmetics.
1983
[Japan’s first] Development of technology for the application of liposome to cosmetics.
1986
Launch of the novel whitening active ingredient “NIKKOL® VC-PMG”.
1995
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkomulese 41”, an O/W emulsifier with an excellent waterproofing effect.
1997
Launch of “NIKKOL® VC-IP”, an oil-soluble vitamin C derivative with improved percutaneous absorption and stability.
1998
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkomulese 61H”, an O/W emulsifier for hair products with a conditioning effect.
1999
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkolipid 81S”, a multifunctional phospholipid complex ideal for anti-inflammatory products and products for use on sensitive skin which forms a structure similar to sebum on the skin.
2002
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkoguard DL”, an antibacterial emulsifier.
2003
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkomulese WO”, a W/O emulsifier that can be formulated with high amounts of silicone oil and polar oil.
2004
Launch of “NIKKOL® Tocoretinate-10”, which helps to reduce wrinkles and promote collagen synthesis and hyaluronic acid production.-Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkomulese LH”, a complex O/W emulsifier with remarkable salt tolerance.
2005-
Launch of “NIKKOL® Retinol H10”, a retinol derivative that helps dermal fibers to promote hyaluronic acid production in cells and is stable against heat, light, and oxidation.
2006
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkomulese LC”, a complex O/W emulsifier with a skin care effect.
Launch of “NIKKOL® VB6-IP”, an oil-soluble derivative of vitamin B6.
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkomulese WO-NS”, a W/O emulsifier.
2007
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkoguard 88”, an antimicrobial emulsifier.
Authorization of “NIKKOL® VC-IP” as a novel whitening active ingredient.
2009
Received first prize for “Proposal of a novel anti-aging and anti-wrinkle concept (NIKKOL® Zinc Glycinate Complex)” at IFSCC Conference 2009.
2010
Launch of “NIKKOL® Nikkomulese LC-EF”, a complex O/W emulsifier with a skin care effect for use in PEG-FREE products.
Addition of “NIKKOL® Lecinol S-10 PLUS” to the lineup of the hydrogenated soybean phospholipid acid lecinol series.
Launch of the Green Sustainable series “NIKKOL® GS series”.
2015
Launch of “NIKKOL®Pure Phos series”, a high-purity alkyl phosphate.
2016
Launch of “NIKKOL® Shea Butter AQUA”, a water-soluble shea butter derivative.
2017
Launch of “NIKKOL® NIKKOMIX SR”, a sebum remover MIX.
2020
Launch of “NIKKOL® VF-LINO”, a whitening support ingredient.
Launch of “NIKKOL® NIKKOSOME PV-PF”, a penetration-promoting vesicle material.
Authorization of “NIKKOL® SUGARSQUALANE M” as a pharmaceutical excipient, launched as a sustainable pharmaceutical excipient.
